And the third season of my life as a tv show begins!!! While the conflicts and themes of this season aren't entirely clear, this premiere episode reintroduced the audience to the world of the show and was pretty much a typical episode; a whole weekend of zany adventures!!!
So, with my great luck, I left JFK and was about to leave...but then was stuck on the runway for a half-hour because we lost power in the first-class galley and therefore could not fly. I was perturbed but I had a great flight watching the season 1 finale of LOST (which is kind of terrifying to watch on a plane, especially with turbulence) and a few random other things before I landed. I also watched Mamma Mia! for about 20 minutes and I had to turn it off because it was too horrific to stand. I landed and went to baggage claim and met back with my best friend in the world, Lauren!!! For those of you who don't know her, she is truly a shining star and I'm so thankful for her. Anyways, we got into her bug (the car, not an actual insect) and I tried to fit three suitcases into the car, which was amusing for us but not so much for the angry taxis waiting to take our spot. Lauren then introduced me to this tiny restaurant that was soo good! It was this eclectic place called Masa and they served awesome deep dish pizza! We split one and talked for hours since it takes them 40 minutes to make each pizza.
Afterwards, we went back to Lauren's apartment and had very schizophrenic viewing habits as we watched parts of Legally Blonde: The Musical, Buffy (I forced her to watch the musical episode), Mommie Dearest, and 30 Rock. It was so much fun just to see her again and it felt like I never left.
The next day, I got to act as a tour guide through Trojan Vision for the opening of our new School of Cinematic Arts. The building is AMAZING since George Lucas donated 175 million dollars to our school to do this. I got to see Melissa while I was working and it was awesome to see her again. We chatted, ate some good food in the new courtyard, and watched the ribbon cutting ceremony. Unfortunately, neither George Lucas or Steven Spielberg were there. They could have at least shown up since the two new buildings are named after them :/ It was awesome to see this new school because it really refreshed my passion for these arts and just made me want to start learning as much as I can as soon as possible.
After the touring, Lo and I got dressed up and we used our free guest passes to the Arclight (BEST MOVIE THEATER EVER!!!) we got in October and saw Revolutionary Road. I really enjoyed the movie but I don't think I would want to see it again as it was really depressing and offered no light at the end of the tunnel. This couple was just destined to fail and crumble and it was painful to watch but it was brilliantly done. We then ate at my favorite restaurant in LA, Osteria Mozza. It's Mario Batali's restaurant and you have to call a month in advance to get in, but the food is amazing! We had ribollito (some thing with minestrone soup and bread crumbs), fresh mozzarella flown in from Basilicata the day before, and these amazing braised beef short ribs served over polenta....SO GOOD. Lauren and I then drove home and blasted the 13 soundtrack till we got back to her place. I passed out in a food coma and then went back to my apartment, which was difficult since my ID card isn't working so I can't get into my building if someone isn't there. Typical.
Today, Lauren and I woke up early and went to the Shrine (which is a block away) and went to the LA Sci-Fi and Comic Book Convention! It was super fun and there was so much stuff there! We found Kynt and Vyxsin from the Amazing Race there (I met them at a viewing party they losted in LA in December) and we helped them move their stuff into the center and talked a bunch with them about sign language, raw meat, Tokyo, and other things. I left there with some magnets of my favorite TV shows, Buffy and LOST shot glasses, Buffy playing cards, and a replica of the failsafe key that Desmond used to destroy the hatch in the second season of LOST!!! All in all, a great time.
This weekend felt jampacked with tons of stuff and I loved every moment, but the best part was spending it with Lauren. Honestly, she's the one person that I can count on and this weekend was such a huge testament to our friendship. I'm really happy right now and I can't wait to just hit the ground running this semester!
"And if your heart is always breaking
Cause the world is just not fair
When you’re at your worst
Your friend’s the first one there
Giving you something to lean on
And that’s what it means to be a friend" - 13: A New Musical
